A spectacular turn out for Parwich's Swifts

On Wednesday 15th April, Derbyshire Dales Swift Project's Community Engagement & Communications Officer, Charly Crump, visited Parwich Horticultural Society at Parwich's Royal British Legion give a talk to 20 of its members.

The talk was organised by Swift Champion, Aaron, who reached out to Derbyshire Swift Conservation back in February with the exciting news that:

"We [Parwich Horticultural Society] have recently been awarded a grant of £1000 which we intend to use for swift and bat boxes so a talk to encourage people to have boxes on their houses and potentially advise on suitable sites before the birds return would be ideal."

During the talk Charly shared information on the plight of Swifts, the results from 2025 Swift Surveys in nearby Youlgreave and what we know so far of Swift 'hotspots' in the village. There was also the opportunity to see and handle Swift boxes and Swift bricks from two of our suppliers: Peak Boxes and Action for Swifts. After the talk, Charly joined members for a walk around the village to assess suitable sites for their new Swift boxes to be installed.

Following the event, members expressed an interest in taking part in Swift survey training to add Parwich to Derbyshire Dales Swift Project's map. If you'd like to sign up to volunteer to survey Swifts for Derbyshire Dales Swift Project this Summer, please complete our sign up form.
